SUMMARY:Braless & Lawless: Movement as Homecoming (An introduction to the GYROTONIC® Method)
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday\, September 30\n6:00 PM PDT | 8:00 PM CDT | 9:00 PM EDT \nWhat if movement could help you feel like coming home to your body — not by pushing harder\, but by learning to move with more awareness\, ease\, and acceptance? \nJoin us for a special experiential Braless & Lawless session with Elaine Shen of Seattle Changing Room\, where we’ll explore the GYROTONIC® movement system and how its principles can support our bodies as we age. \nThis one is a little different from our usual Speaker Series conversations: we’re going to move! \nElaine will lead us through a live teaching and movement experience focused on areas that become especially important in midlife and beyond\, including: \n\nConnecting with and strengthening the pelvic floor — including ways to begin finding it if you’ve never been quite sure what “engage your pelvic floor” is supposed to feel like.\nSupporting lymphatic flow with gentle movement you can use when your body is feeling sluggish or stagnant.\nMovement snacks — small\, practical movements you can weave into everyday life without needing a workout\, special equipment\, or an hour of free time.\n\nJoin us in the studio — or from home\nElaine is opening 12 spots at Seattle Changing Room for Braless & Lawless participants who would like to experience the session in person. These spots are first come\, first served. \nIf you want one of the 12 in-person spots\, please register for the event AND email Becky to reserve your place in the studio. \nEveryone else can join us live via Zoom and participate right along with us. If you’re joining from home\, have a sturdy stool or chair nearby- ideally one where your feet rest flat on the floor when seated (around 18″ is a good height for most) –  and a washcloth or small hand towel. \nWhether you’ve tried GYROTONIC® movement before or have absolutely no idea what it is\, you’re welcome. Come curious\, wear something comfortable\, and be ready to experience your body in a new way. \nNo experience required. Just bring the body you have. \nAbout Elaine\nElaine brings an especially interesting lens to this work – one that bridges science\, the body\, and lived experience. \nBefore becoming an instructor\, Elaine was a neuroscientist working in biotech\, drawn to questions about the brain and behavior. When postural pain led her to try the GYROTONIC® Method\, she found not only physical relief\, but improved mental clarity and emotional wellbeing. \nThat experience ultimately shifted her career trajectory. Today\, she helps others develop strength\, mobility\, flexibility\, and resilience through movement and exploration. \nAs managing owner of Seattle Changing Room\, Elaine cares deeply about cultivating a calm\, grounding space where people feel welcomed\, seen\, and valued — and free to grow into who they are becoming. She loves teaching anyone who is curious\, open\, and ready for exploration and discovery.

SUMMARY:Braless & Lawless: Senior Living & Care Options - What Families Need to Know
DESCRIPTION:Monday\, October 26th \n5:30 PM PDT | 7:30 PM CDT | 8:30 PM EDT \nSenior living may feel like a Someday\, Much Later\, Please topic. Ideally\, it is. But for many of us\, “someday” arrives first for a parent\, in-law\, friend\, neighbor\, or someone else we love\, and suddenly we’re trying to understand independent living\, assisted living\, memory care\, adult family homes\, and in-home support while something is already going wrong. \nIf you’ve been through any version of this\, you know how overwhelming it can be\, and how few clear\, trustworthy resources seem available when you need them most. That’s why this Braless & Lawless session is a bit of a public-service announcement: the best time to learn about care options is before you’re trying to make major decisions at 10:30 p.m. from a hospital parking lot. \nKathryn Johnson\, Owner and Senior Advisor at Assisted Living Locators Seattle\, will join us for a candid\, compassionate\, and practical conversation about aging\, support options\, and the decisions that can feel impossibly big when there is no roadmap. \nWe’ll talk about: \n\nWhat different senior living and care options actually mean\, and who they may fit\nSigns a loved one may need more support\nHow a senior living advisor can help families sort through needs\, timing\, preferences\, and budget\nWhy planning before a crisis can create more options\, dignity\, and peace of mind\nConsiderations for LGBTQ+ elders and people without traditional family support systems\n\nKathryn’s role is not to steer families toward one particular community. Her work begins with listening: understanding the person\, the family\, the needs\, and the reality of the situation. The goal is not just a list of possibilities\, but greater clarity and a more manageable next step. \nWith the holidays approaching – when families gather\, changes may become more noticeable\, and hard conversations often begin – this is an especially useful time to understand the landscape before you urgently need it. \nThis is one of those conversations I sincerely hope you don’t need right now. But if and when you do\, I think you’ll be very glad you had it!
